LOWELL MAKES GOOD WITH LAST SECOND FIELD GOAL (11/11/06)

Last year I went out of my way to attend many of the SF High School football games leading to the championship game where Balboa lost to Lincoln on Turkey Day. This year saw me attending a well contested football game Balboa versus Lowell at the Buccaneers' home ground. Lowell prefers to run the ball which to me is boring but it always seems to work for Lowell the Cardinals. Eric Lara the Buccaneers quarterback worked wonders with his fellow team mate Soloman Webster - I especially make note of one 51 yard pass that put the score at 8-6 in favor of Balboa. I am not a football aficionado but I really wanted Balboa to win because they play a better, risky, fast game of throwing the ball rather then the slow, tedious, snail space defensive run by run that Lowell is so famous for. Paradise Vaovasa played well and was determined to win for the Buccaneers. After his fumble recovery towards the end of the game with the score still at 8-6 in favor of the Buccaneers - I thought this was a done deal. With a few seconds left the Cardinals quarterback Carter Rockwell hit Ayalde down the right side with a perfect 44 yard. Normally, the Cardinals opt for a two point conversion but this time they opted for a field goal. Mathew Jew came, he saw, and he conquered. Mathew Jew had saved his talent as a soccer player and a fine kicker to clinch this one and make history. He got more then his 15 minutes of fame. The Buccaneers played well but I guess this time the Cardinals get to sing the blues. Lowell will face Mission on Friday, November 17, 2006 at 4 p.m. at Kezar Stadium. Lincoln will meet Balboa at 7 p.m. at the same venue.
