PARK TO TOXIC TO USE

Letter to the Editor

Editor — Regarding your article, "Park flourishes in a tough locale" (July 9): Heron Head Park is a toxic dump and 75 feet away from the worst toxic-spewing power plant in California.

The power plant is over 60 years old. The shores of Heron Head Park are full of PCBs, mercury, lead, asbestos and radiological elements from the nearby Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.

From 1950 to 1970 the worst toxic materials were dumped at Pier 98, which is Heron Head Park and comes under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Port Authority.

Our children should not go anywhere near this park.
