This site has always taken a position that it is important that all the necessary Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and EIR should be in place especially when any project is going to be built near Shellmounds which the Muwekma Ohlone consider Sacred Burial Ground.
We have also stated again and again that the 18 treaties signed between the United States and the California Tribes were never ratified and so we are bold to state that much of what we see around has been stolen by the White People. The least that can be done is follow protocol. Some years ago many of us opposed building any homes on San Bruno Mountain. We said this was not right because San Bruno Mountain contains one of the largest if not the largest shellmound in the Nation - which we call the United States of America. The mountain was saved because of the Shellmound but also because of the endangered Blue Butterfly which makes its home on the San Bruno Mountain. Some months ago we addressed an article which we titled the Muwekma Ohlone and Transmission Lines. We were aware of the newly built Jefferson-Martin Transmission line and knew is would affect the patrimonial Sacred Burial Grounds of the Muwekma Ohlone. It shocked me when reviewing a document that some attempt was made to contact the Muwekma Ohlone and that Rosemary Cambra who is the Chairperson was not acknowledged in the document of contact, as belonging to the Muwekma Ohlone. It is important that Pacific Gas and Electric and the California Public Utilities Commission take all the required measures to contact the Muwekma Tribe and request their comments on the largest Shellmound which is the San Bruno Mountian. |
