Sixth U.S. Army's primary goal and mission objective was to provide training to the Reserve Units serving the twelve western states. It did well as was proven in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

October 1, 1994 Sixth U.S. Army and Presidio of San Francisco was deactivated. I served Sixth Army as their last Congressional Liaison and I am very proud to have been in the service of one of the best Armies in the United States.

Sixth Army awarded me two Commander's Awards. I consider this a singular privilege. The Commander's Award is one of the highest awards a civilian can receive.

The photographs depict some of the better days I spent at the Presidio of San Francisco. After the Army left the Presidio was turned over to the National Park Service on October 1, 1994.

Today most of us who worked for the Army appreciate the good times. We are and will also be proud to be part of that history of the Presidio of San Francisco.

It is important to remember that Sixth Army and the City and County of San Francisco always had a close connection going back to the early years as far back at 1800's.

During the 1906 earthquake the Army played an important part. After that the Army always supported the City and County of San Francisco and stood by it when it needed help.
